It's time to say goodbye

Hi everyone,

As you will have noticed, our playercounts of late have been minimal. Although we have continued to fund Hmod out of our own pockets, we believe the time has now come to call it a day. As such, the servers will shut down for good on 12th December 2024.

Wait what? What about the store?

Whilst the store has kept us afloat for a number of years, this is no longer viable.

Is there anything we can do to help?

If the playercount picks up and stays reasonable, we will look into extending the end date. But considering October and most of September have been 0 - this is unlikely.

Will the discord close?

No, our intention is to keep the discord server going for now - we see no reason to close it

I have a specific question not answered above

Can I buy hmod/mods/discord

No, we are not looking to sell any part of this server, our mods or anything else.

Closing remarks and thanks

I’d like to thank everyone who has supported this server throughout its 7.5 year(!) existence, through playing/store/moderating/engaging with the community. I hope that frendships made in this place will continue long into the future. Special thanks go to Harry (for literally making the thing, repeatedly helping us after his departure and much else), Novacide (for being the driving force behind the store, hosting and overall ownership), Quacksey (for being the best CM, dev and American), Blu (for being a great dev and second-best American) and RhysRaptor (for retiring 000s of times).

So long, and thanks for all the fish.

Got the email, Was speaking to Jiglord while I read it, and although probably many players won’t recognize us, as we stopped playing a couple years ago, we both give our thanks to Hmod as its where we first interacted and have had a long friendship together, including meeting up.

Sad to see you go, but would like to say that you gave us thousands of hours of enjoyment, both in Hmod and out of it.

We both Wish everyone luck with wherever they find themselfs in life.

first time logging into this account in 3+ years lol

couple of things to clear up that no one except me knows

• Following the shut down of the forums (or whenever they stop paying for the server) I’ll be turning harry.gg into my personal blog because I have a real job now and an actual career making real video games
• I will be writing up some insights and stuff I learned over the years from making HarrysMod(s) plus a full list of credits with everyone who has ever worked on code or content over the last 7 years that I can remember
• Once these posts are out and after I’ve done a bit of admin work and cleaned out all the passwords I’m going to be releasing the code to HarrysMod, main and genesis, completely free on GitHub forever
• This will be missing some content and will probably not be easy to set up. I will not be helping anyone do anything with this code no matter who you are. Do what you like with the code though, just please don’t bother me about it
• Off the top of my head the main stuff that won’t be included will be some skin textures, the reporting system, the anticheat and the gambling addon (unfortunately the guy who wrote the gambling has also quit Garry’s Mod and I don’t have permission to distribute it for free)
• I have a local backup of the forums as of today. If there’s enough demand for it I’ll find a way to upload all the data minus personal info, emails and IPs (fun fact because I misconfigured nginx we haven’t ever been able to IP ban from the forums)
• I believe CCX has a backup of the VMs we hosted the servers on which does contain all player data. We will not be publicly releasing any of this either because again there’s a bunch of personal data in those databases as well as a shitload of paypal info

More coming soon after this place gets nuked, if there’s anything people are worried about send me a message on discord and I might answer it. Thanks for playing for so long, I didn’t think this server would last more than a couple of years originally and it’s amazing that it managed to keep going for more than 3 years after I left.

Well, it has been a couple of years since I was last active on the server. But I do still want to say goodbye to everyone (again).

This little GMOD TTT server has meant so much to me. I joined this server when I was about 15, I am getting close to 23 now…

During the summer of 2017, I stumbled across this small community and quickly felt at home. Throughout the years I have achieved over 440 hours on Hmod. I have spent so many hours here and I do not regret a single second… Okay that might be a bit of a lie.

But I genuinely do appreciate all of you for the fun times that we all had together. In my late teens I went through a lot of dark moments in my life. Moments where I did not know where I was going and where I could not figure out what to do with my life. But I always remembered that there was a community here where I could be myself, and that meant so much to me. The people I have met here and the friendships I have formed have stayed with me to this day. So, I just want to say that I am eternally grateful to all of you for making me the person that I am today. So, thank you to those wonderful people who stuck with me and were there for me at my lowest, you know who you are.

I love you all, thank you for everything, and until we meet again.

Damn, it really hurts to see this server shutdown, I know that I joined this server only in the start of 2024, this server still made a lot of positive emotions for me, this was the only server that i actually liked and played on it a lot, any other TTT server just didn`t hit the same as hmod. Its really sad to say goodbye to this server.
