Welcome to the HarrysMod Rules list. This is updated over time, so check in occasionally. A “New” will be next to any new/updated rules in the contents list.
harry edit: tldr; please don’t do things that make people uncomfortable or that ruin the game for others. admins can ban you for whatever reason they like, unbans are a privilege, not a right
Common sense should be enough to not be breaking most, if not all of the rules. However it is worth reading through them at some point to get a better understanding of what is and isn’t allowed.
Note that not every single possible thing is here: we trust you to not be a giant prick about it and use the “but it’s not in the rules” excuse. You will be punished for trying that with obviously bad things.
Seriously, don’t be stupid. Doxxing other players isn’t in the rules. That doesn’t mean it’s not allowed. I will personally double the punishment of anybody I catch using this pathetic excuse.
-Mane
If a new player joins and asks how to play, and you tell them to kill everyone, and then they go and RDM people, YOU will receive their punishments
Contents
1.5.1 - Calling out Rule-Breakers
2.2.3.1 - Detective Warnings/KOS Reasons
1.0 - General Server Rules
1.1 - The Admins
Staff instruction is to be followed.
If a Staff member makes a decision that you don’t agree with, after talking to the Staff member talk to another Staff member. Do not spam multiple Staff members in rapid succession.
1.2 - General
1.2.1 - Abusing Permissions
Abusing the !votekick and !votefs commands is not allowed. This includes joke ones, using it to unfairly kick/put someone in spectator, etc.
1.2.2 - AFK Farming
If you are AFK for more than a few minutes, you MUST either go into spectator, or leave the server. Sitting AFK in-game to gain levels is not allowed as it not only is you getting things without putting in any effort, but it also disrupts the flow of the game for those who are alive as you could be a Traitor and they must wait till overtime to kill you.
As part of this, gaining levels or any other form of reward (eg coronavirus care packages) without actually participating in the game, for example by killing yourself at the start of the round, is also banned.
1.2.3 - Contracting
You cannot use scrap to get people to do actions, including damaging players, Traitor baiting, killing players, etc. You also cannot accept scrap to do actions. This will result in heavy punishment.
1.2.4 - Exploiting/Glitching
Exploiting glitches to reach otherwise inaccessible, unreachable or hidden areas is not allowed. In addition, abusing in-game mechanics (such as jetpack, Super Sawed-Off, Moonman, etc.) to reach these places is also not allowed. Prop-surfing is allowed provided you are still see-able, within the map boundaries, and able to be shot. E.g. prop-surfing onto the roof of the tower on minecraft_b5 is ok
Abusing unintentional game features is also prohibited. E.g. Glitching a door stuck.
1.2.5 - Ghosting/Meta-gaming
If you are dead, you are not allowed to tell live players any information about the ongoing round. This includes telling people about KOSes they missed. You also are not allowed to reveal who your fellow Traitors are to players that are alive.
Note that third-party software for voice chatting is allowed, but be careful of what you say when using it.
1.2.6 - Hacking
Do not make use of any client side modifications to try to gain an advantage. This includes hacks and scripts (This includes bhop scripts, they are a script), including aimbot, wallhacks, etc. Autoclickers are also not allowed.
1.2.7 - In-Game Names
Your Steam name must have readable characters that can also be pronounced in English to ensure that you can be targeted in-game. It has to be easy to read in the common English language.
An example of an okay name: Oskar, Aaron, xX_Bbmonster_Xx, mehairypenis
An example of a not okay name: "!#%%&, Я перевел это, ይህንን እተረጉመዋለሁ, ɆĐ₲ɆⱠØⱤĐ
Admins will ask you to change your name if it is unreadable/unpronounceable.
1.2.8 - Lagging the server
You are not to attempt to lag the server when people are on, via glitches, Infinity, or other methods.
Intentionally lagging out the server will result in bans
1.2.9 - Scamming
Do not scam people. If you catch someone trying to scam you or someone else, gather evidence (if any exists), and take it to an admin, preferably a member of Staff. Punishments will be much harsher if you refuse to give the items back.
1.2.9.1 - "Joke" Trades
Do not purposefully send “joke” trades at someone with the intent of annoying them. This is spamming and it’s just annoying
1.2.10 - Sprays
Sprays that may seem offensive to others (racial things, harassment, swastikas, etc) are not allowed
Overtly sexual sprays are not allowed. This includes all forms of porn, and staff will be judging this rule on ‘what would we let an 8 year old see’ due to the fact they’re surprisingly common
1.3 - Bans and Punishments
1.3.1 - Alternate Accounts
Normally, alternate accounts are allowed. However if one of your accounts is banned, you may not play on any other account, until the first ban has run its course.
People evading bans using alt accounts will have all their accounts perma banned.
1.3.2 - Appealing Bans
If you are banned (temp-ban or perma-ban) and you wish to appeal it, you must create a private message to the group ttt-staff (use THIS link) and use the following template:
-Who banned you
-The reason you were banned for
-The time you were banned (date/time)
-Screenshot of the ban message (this may not be possible due to account restrictions)
-Why you should be unbanned and any other relevant information
1.3.3 - Avoiding Punishment
Do not leave while an admin is dealing with reports related to you, unless you explicitly tell the admin that you need to leave for a particular reason. This applies until you have served at least 1 slay. This is because leaving immediately upon receiving slays tells us that you only came here to cause trouble.
1.4 - Communication
1.4.1 - Discrimination
Discrimination in any form is not permitted.
This includes any language that racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. You cannot claim ‘i can say it because I’m…’ as this cannot be proved.
You will have a single warning of either a gag or a mute before heavy bans are implemented.
1.4.2 - Disrespect
Players must conduct themselves appropriately when communicating with others. Swearing, insults, etc. are allowed provided both sides find it funny and are okay with it. If an issue between you and someone arises, take it to an admin.
1.4.3 - Spam
Do not spam, be it normal chat, micspam or admin chat. Chat spam includes repeating messages in a short period of time, rapidly sending messages with no reason, and spamming short commands very quickly. Micspam includes constant singing, screaming, repeating yourself multiple times, and playing music. It is not spam if you are trying to KOS someone while fighting.
1.4.4 - Toxicity & Harassment
Staff **at any time** may temp-ban someone who is consistently making other players uncomfortable or targeting them with abuse1.5 - Reports
1.5.1 - Calling out rule-breakers
Under no circumstances are you to call out hackers and/or ghosters publicly. You must let staff know either admin chat, or if no staff are active Discord DM’ing a member of staff who is on call. As a last resort DM a staff member who is currently active
The reason for this is simple: calling out hackers/ghosters publicly makes the admin’s job 1000x harder as the suspects will be able to turn off hacks/stop doing anything suspicious together since they know people are onto them.
You will be punished if you call them out in public. The punishment will be temp bans of varying lengths. DO NOT DO IT
1.5.2 - Report Locking
Intentionally report locking someone so they need to leave and rejoin will result in a temporary ban of at least an hour.
1.5.3 - Lying in Reports
If you lie in a report, expect a slay. Simple as that.
2.0 - TTT Rules
2.1 - General
2.1.1 - Random Death Match (RDM)
Any player without valid reasoning cannot kill another player, appropriate reasoning to kill the player is needed. This is otherwise known as RDM (Random Death Match). These are the recommended punishments for RDM:
RDM an Innocent: 1 slay
RDM a Traitor: 2 slays
RDM a Detective: 2 slays
Give a dumb answer to the report: 1 slay
Remember these while reading, as they will apply to any improper killing/kos.
2.1.2 - Blocking
Players cannot physically trap a player inside a building/room by blocking a door with props etc. This includes spamming “E” on a door. This is strictly prohibited and will get you punished. Same rules apply if you barricade yourself in. It keeps the other players out.
If a player is body blocking you and causing you not to be able to gain access to a certain area of the map, follow the proper warning procedure in rule, 2.2.3 - Warnings.
2.1.3 - Camping/Delaying
In general, it is a Traitors job to hunt down and kill players. If a Traitor is staying in a spot not actively hunting for kills then the Traitor is camping and is viable to be given slays or slain to end the round. If a Traitor is camping, secretly inform an admin that X is camping, and the admin can warn Traitors to stop camping.
Innocents are also not allowed to camp for too long, but are allowed to stay in the same spot for a few minutes, provided the round isn’t taking a long time. In overtime, Innocents cannot stay in the same spot.
You cannot stay in one place because you believe/know that you will die if you leave. You must still move out, as you are delaying otherwise.
2.1.4 - Claiming Areas
You cannot claim areas. Killing someone because they entered an area that you “claimed” is RDM
2.1.5 - Crossfire
This rule is difficult, however here are 2 scenarios:
A player is randomly firing at a wall, someone walks in-front of it and stands there long enough to be killed, it is the shooter who is at fault. If the shooter is firing at a traitor (for example) and another player walks in-front of the bullets, gets killed by it, then the Staff handling the situation will have to use their own judgement, depending on how careless the shooter was.
2.1.6 - Gunfights
If two (or more) players are fighting and you have no proof of who may be the Traitor, you must not join in the fight. You must wait until the fighting stops, see if bodies are identified, and if they are, question the survivor(s) about what happened.
Jumping into fights without a proper reason is RDM
2.1.7 - Overtime
In overtime you can kill on suspicion. However, the karma loss is on you and you cannot just kill anyone just because its overtime, as you need any other reason apart from “Its overtime, so I can kill you”. Most other reasons are fair grounds. Please keep in mind the other rules when giving a reason.
Killing off of bad reasons during overtime is RDM
2.1.8 - Traitor Baiting
When in-game you should not commit traitorous acts as innocent/detective. Some examples:
Shooting at/towards people. This can appear as though you are shooting them, and if they kill you they will not be punished, and you will be for t baiting. However, if it is obvious (E.g., shooting straight below themselves on the ground or straight up in the air, shooting at a wall with nobody close) that they are not shooting at you, it is not T-baiting
Do not throw random nades or discombobs near players.
Do not carry around explosives near other players, this includes mine turtles on the pool map.
Do not set explosives near other players.
Do not try to push people off of cliffs.
Dont try to propkill
Continuously Traitor baiting will result in slays and/or temporary bans, depending on how often and how severe it is. In addition, being killed for Traitor baiting is entirely on you.
2.2 - Callouts
2.2.1 - Life Check
To life check in-game you must type rather than use your microphone in-case players cannot hear it, but you are allowed to also say it through your microphone provided you have said it through the chat. Anyone can start a life check, but it must be during overtime, and everyone must be given sufficient warnings and time (at least 10 seconds) to respond. Once a good amount of time has passed, you may call a KOS if someone has failed to respond.
An example of a correct life check is as shown: “Life check – respond or KOS”.
2.2.2 - KOS Reasons
2.2.2.1- Valid KOS Reasons
There are many valid KOS reasons and they all work in different situations and scenarios. Here are a few:
Holding/Using a Traitor-only weapon without announcing that they got it from a Traitor.
Ignoring unidentified bodies/C4 etc.
Destroying Testers.
Turning themselves in I.e “I’m a traitor, in the Traitor room” etc.
Seeing a player inside of a Traitor only room, when they haven’t stated that they were let in.
Failure to answer to a life check. (only in overtime).
Throwing an incendiary/discombobulator grenade that damages other players near the player.
Pushing someone with a crowbar near an edge or hazard.
Preventing an Innocent victory or goal (This includes diamond blocks/map specific goals).
Keep in mind that this is nowhere near the full list, as it depends on situations, scenarios, and context.
2.2.2.2 - Invalid KOS Reasons
There are many invalid KOS reasons which are not allowed within the server. Here are a few:
A player uses the same weapon as the killer.
The player has this skin or that hat, etc.
A player is AFK [ask and admin to force them to spectate, if none are around ONLY kill them in overtime].
Being in a public area [Players are allowed free-roam of the map, you cannot KOS someone for entering an area minus traitor only areas].
A grudge held in a prior game upon a player.
A player has taken damage.
The player throws a smoke grenade.
A player looks at you/follows you [Unless after given some warnings (look at 2.2.3)].
Traitors are allowed to make false KOS’ on other players but must be aware that they are likely to be KOS’d themselves if their KOS is followed.
Improper KOS’s are counted as RDM
2.2.3 - In-Game Warnings to Players
When issuing a warning to a player in-game, make sure that it is through the text chat so that everyone can see it. Note that you can still do it through voice chat, provided the target acknowledges that they can hear it.
Make sure that you give the player a number of warnings (minimum of 3) and after that you may then declare a KOS because of their actions, or just kill them. Make sure you have at least a 3-4 second gap between the warnings. If someone says “you can’t shoot me, that’s RDM” even when you warn them, it’s their own fault.
Examples include:
If a user is aiming a gun at you when you are standing still.
If a user is following you across the map (You MUST have full line of sight every time you issue a warning.)
Failing to warn properly is RDM
2.2.3.1 - Detective Warnings/KOS Reasons
As a detective, you may issue a warning to players to not do/use something, however you cannot kill people for ignoring these warnings until overtime
Some examples of valid detective KOS reasons are (These only apply in OVERTIME):
Refusing to cease fire.
Refusing to go into the traitor tester after being asked multiple times.
Using a health station repeatedly without permission. (keep in mind that if someone uses health station before overtime, you may not kill them, but can sus them and use it as a reason to kill them on overtime)
These are not all the valid scenarios for detectives to KOS someone, but make sure that they follow what is stated above relating to false reasons.
